What's an A/R Plane®?

A/R Planes by themselves not mounted on an ocean or lake boat

A/R Planes installation procedure, on a Mercruiser Bravo One Outdrive for an Ocean and Lake Boat.

A/R Planes® attach to the skeg of the lower unit on your I/O or Outboard. Their patented design allows them to manipulate hydrodynamic forces which counter the torque reaction on your boat caused by the propeller. This equates to easier steering & eliminates the need to constantly counter steer your boat to make it go straight.

At the same time, the A/R Planes® combat the rotation of your hull giving a level ride. The dihedral angle of the planes, cause a self righting action on your boat so whenever your hull tries to lean or list, the planes attempt to set the hull straight.

Because the planes have a small surface profile but a relatively large planing area, they have a profound effect on the trim response of your trimmable I/O or Outboard yet offer little or no speed loss. In fact, often times a speed gain is realized because the power trim can be run at less angle. That makes the propeller more efficient because it's thrust angle more closely matches the direction the boat is traveling.

In fact, on two of our R & D boats, the enhanced trim sensitivity, allowed us to raise the boat further out of the water and still maintain a stable ride. One boat realized a 5% increase in speed with the A/R Planes® and the other went from 70.5 to 71.9 MPH on a Stalker Radar!!

There is one more unfortunate (for the planes) feature the A/R Planes can offer. Because they are made of tough stainless steel, and hang below the actual skeg, in the event your drive contacts the ground or the ramp, the planes take the abuse, not your expensive and soft aluminum skeg followed by your propeller.
