Dirty Tricks Used By Car Salesmen

To be a successful car salesman, you need to have a persistent drive, passion, and possess the ability to sweet-talk even an old grandma into buying a car she wasn’t even planning for in the first place. Since car salesmen are mostly paid by commission, success is directly proportional to the number of sales you make. And that probably means doing everything in your power to close any deal that comes your way. In some cases, even if the salesmen knows you can’t afford the car they will still push you into the sale. This can cause consumers to apply for a car title loan as soon as they leave the lot!

So, apart from listening at all the mumbo jumbo on various ‘excellent’ car features, what does this actually mean for car buyers?

If a seller is ready to do anything to make sale, he’ll probably employ a few dirty tricks especially when he’s dealing with a vehicle that’s proving to be too hard to sell. Although many of them occasionally dupe clients into raw deals, there are still a couple of honest souls out there. It would therefore, be unfair to stereotype all car salesmen as potential tricksters. The only way to discern between an honest and a dishonest individual is learning the rules of the trade, and consequently comprehending some of the dirty tricks they commonly use:

Lapdog Trick

The lapdog trick is one of the oldest tricks in the book, where a car salesman tries to compel a buyer to run back to him after shopping around other dealerships. When a customer drops the all too common line, “thank you, but let me see what else I can see around”, the salesman encourages him to go ahead with one final guarantee- that he’s ready to match the lowest price the customer gets. That way, the customer is subconsciously compelled to go back and ultimately close the deal at the dealership after getting a good price.

Lowballing

This trick is meant to exhaust and wear down the buyer, forcing him to eventually close the deal. The salesman basically hits the buyer with an extremely low price quote, which mostly falls under the average market rate. Just as is common among buyers, the customer will still proceed to other dealerships, comparing the original offer with the rest. Ultimately, when the customer is so exhausted, he’ll return to the original dealership to take advantage of the seemingly low offer. However, instead of proceeding with the sale, the salesman ‘confirms the price with the boss’ who’ll obviously decline to sell it for such a low price. In the long run, the buyer pays more than the original offer.

My Relative Drives One Too

What’s more assuring of a car’s quality than a salesman who ‘admits’ that his wife/mother/son drives one? If a trickster salesman senses doubt over the quality of a car, chances are that he’ll come up with an intriguing story of how the same car model has excellently served a member of his family. He’ll even probably claim that he actually helped the family member pick the car. After buying the car, don’t be too surprised if it breaks down a mile away from the dealership. After all, all a dishonest vehicle salesman cares about is your money.

Tesla Loses Consumer Reports Recommendation: Is the Electric Car Maker in Trouble?

Tesla Motors is one of the most exciting companies out there, promising a future of clean and affordable transportation. Under the laudable leadership of Elon Musk, the company has become one of the biggest names in the auto and tech industries.

This is reflected in rising sales. Last year, Tesla sold 31,655 Model S sedans-a figure it has already beaten this year. So successful has the car maker been that shares were at $228.10 and a new model–the Model X SUV–was released just last month.

In the midst of the achievement, however, things have taken a slight turn for the worse: Consumer Reports, the influential US magazine that reviews products and services according to in-depth surveys and research, dropped its recommendation of the Model S. As a result, Tesla shares fell $15 and 6.61 percent to $213.03.

This was a major shock around the industry, especially after Consumer Reports gave the Model S P85D the highest rating among any vehicle they’ve ever tested earlier this year.

There were a number of reasons why Consumer Reports made the decision. But it all boils down the reliability. Owners experienced issues with a number of vehicle features, including the sunroof, drive train, and center console. One of the biggest issues was charging the car, with the electric motor having to be replaced in some cases.

Tesla appears to be having a hard time providing full functionality as it has added more features. The company may have an ever harder time keeping quality in check as it accelerates its production. The Model X has just gone on sale, and manufacture of the Model S continues in the face of the recommendation loss.

How Bad is it for Tesla?

What does this mean for Tesla? How much is this going to affect their business?

It’s definitely a blow to their reputation, especially among investors. As reflected by the drop in share value, many have lost faith in Tesla for the moment. Prospective investors may stay away, cutting into company capital.

With regard to consumer relations, it may not be as bad as you would think. Despite the fact that Consumer Reports withheld a reliability recommendation, Tesla has managed to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction. In fact, 97 percent of those surveyed said they would buy the car again, even with the bugs it has.

It helps that Tesla has known about these failings and been swift to address them. The company keeps close communication with car owners and even has a sophisticated software that allows updates to eliminate bugs without drivers having to take the car to the shop. The effort to have good consumer relations has paid off–Tesla’s current customer base is extremely loyal.

Final Verdict

Now the trick is to apply the lessons learned to the production of future vehicles. This situation isn’t a death knell for Tesla by any means, but it is a strong warning that major error is possible in the future if the company doesn’t learn from its mistakes. If Tesla can create better quality controls as it speeds up production, it can recover from this slip-up and see its share value glide back up.

High Tech Car Features Coming to a Dealership Near You

James Bond’s Aston Martin DB5. KITT from Knight Rider. The Batmobile. Speed Racer’s Mach 5. These are the awesome fictional cars from our childhood we all grew up wishing we could own. But, alas, one day we had to grow up, face reality, and settle with the limited technology of the present.

Well, the future is here, and now your wildest automobile dreams can come true. Carmakers have come out with or are in the process of developing fantastic car features we previously thought was only the stuff of movies.

Here are the most notable. As soon as you can, go to your nearest dealer and demand an upgrade.

Night Vision Driving

Imagine you’re on the road in the middle of the night, surrounded by a dense cloud of fog. The risk is high collision with an animal, large object, or even a person.

The good news is you no longer have to rely on your high beams alone. High-tech infrared and radar night vision systems like those available through BMW, Mercedes, and Audi give you a clear image of the road ahead of you right on a built-in screen on your dashboard. It alerts you when you approach a potentially dangerous object.

Omnivision

Being able to see behind you with rearview mirrors is great, but why be content with a mere 180 degrees of vision when you can get the full 360? Ford and other big name manufacturers have developed cameras that let you see all around your car on your dashboard monitor.

Traffic Navigation Systems

The GPS is one of the best car technologies ever conceived. It’s great for finding your way to a place you’ve never been. Unfortunately, a regular old GPS doesn’t know when traffic is heavy on a certain route. Acura and other industry leaders are offering GPS systems synced with real-time traffic data. You’re led along on the fastest, most convenient path.

Self-Cleaning Windows

The latest models from brands like Kia feature windows made of a special coated glass that deflects water and debris so that your vision remains unobstructed while driving. You won’t even need windshield wipers!

Voice-Detection Software

This is one that’ll truly be loved by fans of Knight Rider. The cars may not have AI that you can hold a meaningful conversation with, but software like Uconnect can read commands asking for directions and information or to make make a call similar to Chicago limo rental companies.

Chicago Cars That Parallel Park for You

Don’t you hate parallel parking? The constant looking back, turning, and coming within fractions of an inch of scraping the bumper of the car behind you. Wouldn’t it be great to have some help performing these stressful maneuvers (at least more precise and less obvious help than your buddy giving you directions)?

Now there is. Parallel parking assistants use ultrasonic waves and sensors built into the bumper notify you when you get dangerously close to the car in front or behind you.

Cars That Massage You While You Drive

After a long day at work, a long drive home is the last thing you want. Thankfully, manufacturers like Mercedes Benz have massage nodes built into the seats to soothe and relax you.

With these high-tech car features, driving is now safer and pleasurable than ever before.
